Get Involved

As I begin my service I am reminded of the fact that all great American cities share the common characteristic of active and engaged citizens who care deeply about their community.  As your elected representative I must rely on your willingness to share with me your thoughts and ideas about how we can go forward as a community.

But our District and our City needs more than that.  It is vitally important that you make a commitment to become actively involved in the life of our great Capital City.  First and foremost I urge you to become involved in your neighborhood association.  Join with your friends and neighbors to address the concerns that you have and figure out ways to strengthen the quality of life in your neighborhood.

There are also many community-based and faith-based organizations that seek to assist citizens in need and make our City stronger.  Volunteer some time with one of these groups, and you will discover how incredibly satisfying and effective it can be to reach out to just one other person.

In the months and years to come, I will continue to reach out to each of you, and I look forward to working with you and others to address our challenges and opportunities and to build the great 21st century city that our Columbia is to become.

Sincerely,

Belinda Gergel
