Turning our face to the river
November 16, 2009
I returned yesterday from the National League of Cities meeting in San Antonio, Texas. This meeting drew some 3500 city council representatives from around the country for workshops and training sessions on a host of municipal issues. Among those I attended were sessions on "green city" initiatives, technology, communication and social networking, city/school partnerships, and transportation. One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to experience San Antonio's fabulous River Walk. The convention center and surrounding hotels were located right on the riverwalk. Beautifully landscaped, this lovely trail links portions of the city to various retail and hospitality establishments on the river with numerous spots for relaxation and contemplation. It is the number one entertainment destination in Texas.
I am hopeful that the paths on our side of the Congaree River will be completed in the near future. We have an incredible resource, and I am excited that we have "turned our face to the river".
