Principal For A Day
April 16, 2009
I served as "Principal for the Day" at AC Moore Elementary School today. This is a new initiative, launched by Superintendent Percy Mack, that brought a host of business and community leaders into District One schools to learn more about the educational experiences of our children and the administrators and teachers that serve them. I had a great day and I am excited about the many good things that are happening at this school. Dr. Chantelle Baker-Parnell, AC Moore's Principal, welcomed me and briefed me on the school program, which includes 4-and 5-year-old children through the fifth grade. I went with Dr. Baker-Parnell as she went about her daily activities, evaluated various teachers and worked with a number of students. Everywhere I turned I saw exciting signs of learning, and the children were actively engaged in innovative and focused learning activities.
The future of Columbia is closely linked to successful schools at all levels in every area of the city. District 3 schools are some of the best in the city and have had an active core of parent and community volunteers. My day at AC Moore reminded me of the great opportunities we have to partner with our schools in learning initiatives that can transform the educational experiences of our children.
