City Council Appoints Five Points Parking Committee

August 20, 2008

At its August 6th meeting, Columbia City Council approved the appointment of a special citizens committee to address parking needs in the Five Points area to ensure that this important shopping village has the necessary parking to serve existing and future development.

Comprised of a talented and diverse group of business owners, neighborhood leaders, and community members, the committee will be chaired by Ms. Susan Lake. Its task is to assess the need for public parking in Five Points and, if deemed appropriate, to make recommendations to City Council on various parking options.

The Committee seeks ideas and input. You may contact Ms. Lake (slake3@sc.rr.com) on your thoughts about our needs and about the opportunities for meeting those needs in the Five Points area.

This will be a fair and open process to consider all options so that the plans that result will be in the best interest of our city, the historic Five Points shopping village, and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The Committee will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, August 27th at 5:15 p.m. at the Capital Senior Center.
