Overview of Maxcy Gregg Centennial
A series of events leading up to An Afternoon in the Park, on October 9, 2011, will celebrate the 100 year history of Maxcy Gregg Park, a priceless treasure for today’s and future generations.
The goal of the Maxcy Gregg Park Centennial Celebration is to reconnect the Park to the surrounding urban environment and to reconnect the people who live in the surrounding environment to the Park itself.
To mark this Centennial Year, the City and its community partners are undertaking a major restoration of the Park. This project will achieve a number of objectives, including – improving safety, improving access for senior citizens through the Park to the Capital Senior Center, promoting fitness with expanded walking trails, and environmentally sensitive “best practices” that address the Rocky Branch storm water issues that impact the Park.
