A series of activities will lead up to An Afternoon in the Park on October 9, 2011, with a number of follow-on events scheduled for the fall.  Events are subject to change based on weather conditions and progress on the restoration project.  Please revisit this page closer to the event to confirm details.

Sept. 19- Oct. 5 - Rocky Branch Litter Clean-Up
- Volunteer day for litter clean-up in Maxcy Gregg Park segment
- Begin building coalition for Rocky Branch Watershed Assoc.

Oct. 9 - CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

On October 9, 2011, the Maxcy Gregg Park Centennial will be celebrated with an "Afternoon in the Park" from 1:00pm to 5:00pm

The Re-Dedication ceremony will take place at 3:00pm at the stage in the Cancer Survivors rear patio.

Exhibits and Demonstrations will be held throughout the afternoon:
- the History of Maxcy Gregg Park
- the new rain garden features in the Park
- proposed Columbia Urban Trail system
- Community Flower Gardens
- Capital Senior Center’s Tai Chi and Qi Gong demonstrations (2:00pm)
- Rocky Branch Watershed Initiative
- Restoration of Maxcy Gregg pool

Live music on the stage:
1:00pm - Capital City Big Band
2:30pm - Logan Elementary School Steel Drum Band
4:00pm - Benedict College Concert Choir

Fitness Walks will show the Park’s new loop paths:
1:30pm - Senior Walk
2:00pm - Family Walk
2:30pm - Dog Walk (with new pet waste stations)

Open Houses will be held at:

Garden Club Council of Greater Columbia

Food Truck Court will include:

Parking for the Maxcy Gregg Centennial event on Oct. 9 will be available in the Maxcy Gregg parking lot and at the Garden Club Council adjacent to the Maxcy Gregg lot.  Overflow parking will be available in USC's Bull Street garage through Gate One.  Gate One is on Devine St. off of Bull St. across from Patterson Hall (between Blossom and Greene Streets). All parking will be free.

In the Event of Rain, the Centennial Celebration activities will take place in the Capital Senior Center and the Garden Club Council buildings, both adjacent to the Maxcy Gregg parking lot.

- Posters and hand-outs on lighting and safety measures in the Park and the link to the Columbia Urban Trail linking the South Campus to Five Points
